Braves: Here’s why you should be paying attention to the Augusta Green Jackets in 2023

Braves hat

The Braves have lost a lot of their prospect talent, some to trades, but most of it to graduation. Atlanta is constantly developing their own talent at a great pace, and they have an exciting young rotation in Augusta that’s littered with the new wave of their farm system:

Starting with Fuentes, he was a 2022 midseason DSL All Star, and he posted an impressive 2.25 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 50 strikeouts over 40 innings last year. He isn’t on any top prospect lists, but he’s certainly a name to watch as he matures.

Adam Shoemaker was a 2021 draft pick, and although he has had some struggles to start his career, he’s still only 20 years old and has a ton of upside with big strikeout potential.

Spencer Schwellenbach was also a 2021 draft pick, but he missed last season due to Tommy John Surgery. He was a very interesting prospect out of Nebraska — a shortstop that served as their closer and was regularly touching 100 mph.

Owen Murphy and JR Ritchie were Atlanta’s first two picks in the 2022 draft, and their success will be paramount for the Braves if they want to get back to rebuilding their farm system.

It may be bleak in Atlanta in terms of prospects, but Augusta has a guy pitching every night that’s worth keeping an eye on.
