The Braves made a somewhat shocking move when they optioned Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder to Gwinnett earlier this week. That’s paved the way for Dylan Dodd, Jared Shuster, or both to make the Opening Day roster. They’ve been brilliant, but my biggest takeaway from this preseason has been the continued struggles of Ian Anderson.
An ERA over six in 7.1 innings isn’t pretty, but the numbers actually look better than his performances on the mound this Spring. His velocity was down, his control was abysmal, and that third offering that was hyped up this offseason didn’t move the needle. Anderson, who owns a 1.26 ERA over eight postseason starts, no longer looks like a major-league pitcher. He’s a long way from working his way back to Atlanta, and it’s fair to wonder if he ever will.
On the latest episode of SportsTalkATL, Chase Irle, Alex Lord, and Jake Gordon discuss Anderson’s struggles, along with the emergence of Dylan Dodd and Jared Shuster
