Yesterday, we found out there will officially be a 2020 season. Players will report to camp by July 1st, with the regular season beginning on the 23rd and ending on September 27th. The postseason will take up the month of October, where the Braves hope to be the last ones standing after back-to-back exits in the NLDS.
In fact, Atlanta hasn’t won a playoff series since 2001, which almost seems impossible considering how many fantastic teams have donned the tomahawk across their jersey since then. But despite their postseason woes of the last two decades, Vegas still gives the Braves the fourth-best odds to raise the trophy in 2020, behind only the Dodgers, Astros, and Yankees.

Understandably, those three teams are the overwhelming favorites. They undoubtedly have the most stacked rosters in the game. However, I think most people would be surprised to see the Braves come in at number four, well ahead of the defending champion Washington Nationals, who have 18/1 odds of repeating.
That might be because of Atlanta’s consistent success in the regular season, which will be critical in this shortened campaign. The Nationals have been prone to losing stretches over the last two years, which have cost them the NL East. If they have one of those lulls this season, they might not even make the playoffs. That would have been the case last year, as they were just 27-33 in their first 60 games before making a run at a Wild Card Spot. However, as a betting man, I’m looking at the long shots.
In a 60-game season, every team has a chance to sneak their way into the playoffs. After that, anything is possible. If there’s ever a year to gamble on a team with 100/1 odds or worse, this is it. Find your underdog and ride with them through October because this is going to be a wild next four months.
