The Braves had several important decisions to make by tonight. Most of them were cut and dry, but there was one surprise, when it was announced Travis d’Arnaud’s $8 million option for 2025 will not be picked up. He will become a free agent, and so will Luke Jackson; although, that was expected. Marcell Ozuna’s option for 2025 was picked up, as he’ll make $16 million next year and remain in the middle of Atlanta’s lineup as the designated hitter.
Additionally, the Braves are extending a qualifying offer to Max Fried. This is a move that’s more procedural than anything. Fried can accept the offer, which is a one-year deal that will pay him north of $21 million in 2025, or he can decline and become a free agent. It’s a no-brainer for Fried, who will surely get a much more lucrative contract in free agency. However, the qualifying offer does give the Braves some protection. If Fried signs elsewhere, the club will receive a compensatory pick in the fourth round.
