In the most obvious decision of the offseason, the Braves extended a qualifying offer to All-Star shortstop Dansby Swanson.
The full qualifying offer list, per ESPN sources:
– Aaron Judge
– Trea Turner
– Xander Bogaerts
– Jacob DeGrom
– Dansby Swanson
– Carlos Rodón
– Brandon Nimmo
– Willson Contreras
– Chris Bassitt
– Anthony Rizzo
– Tyler Anderson
– MartÃn Perez
– Joc Pederson
– Nathan Eovaldi— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) November 10, 2022
Given Swanson is likely to sign a deal worth north of $20 million AV, he will surely decline the offer. He has 10 days to accept, but this is nothing more than a procedural move.
The qualifying offer is for one year worth just under $20 million, but what is important about this is if Swanson signs elsewhere, the Braves will receive a compensatory draft pick, providing they don’t sign a player that also received a qualifying offer.
