Some exciting news came out of Braves’ camp late Tuesday afternoon: All-Star pitcher, Mike Foltynewicz, will return to the rotation on Saturday, according to several sources close to the team. It will be Teheran pitching the series finale in Cincinnati, Max Fried opening at SunTrust Park against the Rockies, and Mike Foltynewicz making his season debut on Saturday.
Folty felt pain in his elbow during spring training. That raised a flag because of pre-existing issues that date back to last year. Initially, Foltynewicz reassured Braves’ Country it would not cost him any regular season starts. However, the Braves decided, as they have with all their talented arms, to proceed with caution.
The Braves’ Ace began the year in AAA and has made four rehab starts with the Stripers this season, upping the load with each outing. He has yet to be at his sharpest, allowing 12 ER ins 17.2 innings (6.11 ERA), but thankfully has not suffered any setbacks. The organization must feel like it’s time to let him go through the growing pains at the major league level.
Foltynewicz will make his debut at SunTrust Park against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday at 7:20 ET.
