Drew Smyly being activated this weekend shouldn’t serve as a surprise, but Cristian Pache being optioned has certainly raised some eyebrows.
The #Braves today reinstated LHP Drew Smyly from the 10-day injured list and optioned INF Sean Kazmar Jr. to the alternate training site. The club also reinstated OF Cristian Pache from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to the alternate training site.

I understand why Pache has been demoted, but I didn’t think it would come this early. Pache is only hitting .133 on the season with a very bad .361 OPS. He isn’t seeing the ball well, and his 41.9% strikeout rate and his 29.4% hard-hit rate indicate that. With Guillermo Heredia playing fairly well, it looks like the Braves will roll with him for now as they attempt to seize sole possession of first in the NL East, where they currently trail by one game.
