With the rosters trimming to 28 players on August 6th, the Braves seem to have made their first significant decision (or second if you count designating Mike Foltynewicz for assignment), designating Jhoulys Chacin, who they signed days before the restart of the season, for assignment.
The #Braves today selected the contract of LHP Chris Rusin and designated RHP Jhoulys ChacÃn for assignment.

Chacin appeared for the first time last Sunday night against the Mets and looked fantastic, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings. However, his second outing in a Braves uniform didn’t go nearly as smoothly. Chacin relieved Sean Newcomb yesterday with the bases loaded, walked two runners in and gave up a double and a single before getting out of the jam. He then allowed two more Mets to cross the plate in the next inning before Brian Snitker finally pulled the plug.
The Braves have problems throughout their rotation after Mike Soroka and Max Fried. It was thought Chacin could help aid those, but after last night, it’s understandable for the club to go in a different direction. In his place, the Braves called up left-hander Chris Rusin, who has eight years of experience and had a 2.65 ERA in 60 appearances as recently as 2017. However, he’s probably not a long-term option for the club, just an extra arm for the Braves bullpen until the roster trims to 28.
