Snitker had initially said that the injury was nothing serious, and Pache was day-to-day. However, it was sore when he woke up on Tuesday, and the Braves thought it would be best to send him back to Gwinnett camp for a few days. That might also be why the team was so quick to sign Yasiel Puig.
In Pache’s place, the Braves called up Braden Shewmake, a 2019 first-round pick out of Texas A&M. It’s unlikely he will ever see the field during the regular season, but the Braves probably wanted him to get some action with the major-league squad since there will be no minor league season.
