Following Monday’s forgetful outing by Touki Toussaint, the Braves made yet another move regarding their starting rotation, optioning Toussaint back to the team’s alternate site and calling up Jasseel De La Cruz.
The #Braves today recalled RHP Jasseel De La Cruz to the active roster after optioning RHP Touki Toussaint to the alternate training site following last night’s game.

De La Cruz is not one of the most talked-about prospects in the Braves system, but he has the talent to be a major league starter in the future. Last season, as a 22-year-old, he dominated Rome and Florida on his way to Mississippi, where he made 17 appearances (16 starts), posting a more than respectable 3.83 ERA.
I would be pretty surprised if we saw De La Cruz make his major league debut unless its mop-up duty. The Braves are expecting to activate Cole Hamels from the 45-day IL tomorrow, which means this promotion should be very short-term. However, the fact that they decided to make this move over guys like Sean Newcomb and Tucker Davidson is telling. Anthopoulos is obviously pleased with what he has seen from De La Cruz at the team’s alternate site this year.
