The Atlanta Braves non-tendered a slew of players last week. Among them, were pitchers Royber Salinas and Ray Kerr; however, per the club’s transaction page, both players have been brought back on minor-league contracts.
Royber Salinas was actually included in the package to the A’s that netted Sean Murphy. However, he was released after posting a 4.60 ERA and 10.5 K/9 between AA and AAA this season. The Braves picked him up, non-tendered him, and are now bringing him back on a minor-league deal. It’s unlikely Salinas makes an impact on the major-league club this season, but he’s a high upside relief arm that could carve out a role for himself if he harnesses his control.
Ray Kerr is also unlikely to pitch for the Braves this season; although, his circumstances are much different. He appeared for the Braves ten times this year, including two starts, boasting a 5.64 ERA and 10.9 K/9. The ERA wasn’t pretty, but his 4.42 FIP suggests he was subjected to some pretty abysmal luck. He pitched much better than his surface level numbers before his season ended due to Tommy John surgery. That happened back in June, meaning he’s highly unlikely to be ready at any point in 2025.
