Moments ago, the Braves announced they have acquired Jacob Webb back from the Diamondbacks. He will be available for tonight’s game, but in a corresponding move, the Braves placed Collin McHugh on the Injured List.
The #Braves today acquired RHP Jacob Webb from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations, and he will be available for tonight’s game against Oakland. In a corresponding move, Atlanta placed RHP Collin McHugh on the injured list.

It’s unclear how serious the injury to McHugh is, but it’s incredibly unfortunate for a team that is currently watching the best pieces of their bullpen drop like flies. Luke Jackson has missed the entire season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery, Tyler Matzek has been out for nearly a month, and now McHugh, who finally seemed to be finding his footing with the Braves, is joining them. Over his last 13.1 innings pitched, he recorded a 1.35 ERA and opponents were hitting just .178 against him.
David O’Brien of The Athletic has said that he believes McHugh’s absence is for COVID.
No injury listed for McHugh, but my understanding is that’s Covid, though he’s vaccinated. https://t.co/wDpJZ04urT

Let’s hope that is the case, and that his recovery is swift. The Braves really can’t afford to lose his arm out of the bullpen right now.
After being DFA’d by the Braves, Webb was picked up by the Diamondbacks before being designated for assignment by them as well. Now, out of desperation, he’s back in Atlanta. Webb has yet to appear in a major-league game this season, but he did make six appearances for the D-backs AAA squad and was abysmal, giving up six earned runs over 5.1 innings before they let him go. In all likelihood, Webb will only be used in emergency situations until McHugh returns from the IL.
