Brian McCann is progressing well from the knee injury that sent him to the 10-day IL. The earliest he can return is Saturday, but David O’Brien of The Athletic reports he will be activated on Sunday – the series finale against the White Sox.
#Braves’ Cervelli (quad tightness Wednesday) can play if needed, but Braves plan to rest him couple days if they can. They will activate McCann on Sunday.

O’Brien also reports good news regarding Francisco Cervelli, who left Wednesday’s game with a leg strain while running the bases. He’s available, but ideally, they would like not to have to use him for a few days. McCann returning on Sunday has to do with the rosters set to expand on September 1st. By activating him then instead of Saturday, they won’t have to option anyone to Gwinnett.
