With yesterday’s 5-2 comeback win over the Pittsburgh Pirates the Atlanta Braves became the first team in baseball to clinch a playoff berth.

The Braves sit at 93-49 with 20 games left in the season as they shared a champagne toast after the game to celebrate what they have accomplished so far, but there’s a lot more still left on the table, and their next goal could be completed by the end of the week.
Atlanta’s magic number to clinch their sixth consecutive NL East title is down to seven, as they head to Philadelphia for a four-game series which begins today with a double-header. Technically, they could clinch the division against their rivals with a four-game sweep. After that, their eyes will turn to the #1 overall seed in the National League, as they currently lead the Dodgers by six games in that department.
The Braves also have the opportunity to make franchise history. The record for most wins in a season is 106, set by the 1998 Braves. If Atlanta can win 14 of their final 20 games, they’ll reach 107, a mark that may not be topped for quite some time.
