Braves: Austin Riley leaves game after being hit by pitch

At this point, I’m fully convinced some sort of witchcraft has been used on the Braves. The club in 2024 might have been the most injury-struck team in baseball history. Coming into the season, it was thought that there was no way something like that could happen again. Yet we are still two weeks away from Opening Day, and the Braves might have lost their second starter.

Sean Murphy will miss the first few weeks of the season after being struck with a 95 MPH fastball in the ribs. Thankfully, the Braves appear to have a worthwhile replacement in top prospect Drake Baldwin, who has been a star in Spring Training. They don’t have one at third base, though, and it’s possible Austin Riley might miss some time after he was hit by a pitch as well. However, his could be even worse, as he was struck in the wrist and left the game. The Braves are currently calling it precautionary, but we’ve seen this song and dance before.

If you remember, Austin Riley’s season ended last year after he was hit with a fastball on the wrist. He did stay in this game to run the bases before being removed, so that’s at least a positive sign. But it’s hold-your-breath time again for Braves fans, as we await the results of further testing, which we will keep you updated with at SportsTalkATL.
