Both of these guys actually came from the Dodgers before landing with the Phillies. Garlick is 28 and Arano is 25
Kyle Garlick had three hits in 22 at bats in 2020, but he did slug three home runs for the Dodgers in 2019 in 48 at bats. He absolutely crushed in AAA in 2019, notching a 1.057 OPS with 23 home runs and 25 doubles in 271 at bats. He’s certainly worth stashing in Gwinnett with that type of power, and he could potentially make an Adam Duvall esque leap to Atlanta.
Victor Arano had a 0.86 WHIP for the Phillies in 2019 along with a 3.86 ERA in 4.2 IP. He did not appear in 2020 in the majors or minors after undergoing elbow surgery. Arano pitched 59.1 innings for the Phillies in 2018, and he was fantastic. He had a 2.73 ERA to go along with a 1.19 WHIP & 9.1 K/9. His 8.2 H/9 is a little high, but he’s also worth stashing if he’s healthy. I wouldn’t be shocked if he made the opening day roster if Atlanta doesn’t work something out with Shane Greene or Mark Melancon.
A full 40-man doesn’t take Atlanta out of the race for any free agents like Marcell Ozuna, and I think both of these guys are quality depth pickups, especially with key pen pieces unsigned & lack of a right-handed power bat.
