It was reported last week that the dreaded “forearm tightness” was holding Luke Jackson back from making his Spring Training debut, and over the weekend, the worst case scenario was realized — a damaged UCL.

Jackson will receive multiple opinions and evaluate all of his options, but oftentimes there is no other choice but Tommy John surgery. If that’s the direction he chooses, Jackson likely won’t be on the mound again until the middle of next season. Either way, he won’t be available for at least a few months, as the Braves have added him to the 60-day IL.
The #Braves today selected RHP Darren O’Day to the major league roster and optioned LHP Kyle Muller to Triple-A Gwinnett. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the club placed RHP Luke Jackson on the 60-day injured list with a torn right ulnar collateral ligament.

What makes it even worse is Jackson will be an unrestricted free agent next season. Perhaps the Braves will re-sign him, but there’s a very good chance we’ve seen the last of him in a Braves uniform, which is disappointing because there are so many fans out there that never truly appreciated all he’s done for the organization.
