As expected, the Braves have added a starter on the eve of the trade deadline, but the name is not what fans were expecting.
The Braves are close to acquiring left-handed starter Tommy Milone from the Orioles. Other details of the potential deal have not been revealed.

Details are emerging that there are two players to be named later involved in the deal. This doesn’t come as a surprise considering guys outside of the 60-man player pool can’t technically be traded, so we will have to wait to see who the Braves are losing.
Personally, I really like this move, pending that the return isn’t something ridiculous. Milone’s a seasoned vet, and even though he’s had some rough years, he’s got excellent stuff.
Welcome to your new FB/CH combination, Braves fans!

Milone seems to have found his groove in 2020. His 4.45 career ERA isn’t eye-popping, but looking at his 2020 numbers, he’s exactly what Atlanta needs at a presumably low cost. He’s eaten up 29.1 innings with a 9.5 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9. He’s made six starts so far, so he can give you 5-6 innings and throw strikes. That’s about all you can ask for when you’re shopping in the bargain bin. Hopefully, Milone retains this form and doesn’t revert to his previous self. His 3.85 FIP is a promising sign that his success is sustainable.
I also doubt this is the last move Alex Anthopoulos will make. Atlanta always needed more than one starter, so there’s a chance we see another big name come over within the next 24 hours. Not surprisingly, it seems Atlanta is kicking the tires on everyone.
The Braves have done work on “every starter imaginable.” The acquisition of Tommy Milone does not figure to take them out of the starting pitching market.

Milone is in Philadelphia and will make his Braves debut tonight. To make room for him on the roster, Atlanta has DFA’d Matt Adams.
We’ll keep you posted on any more Braves trade deadline action.
