Per Mark Bowman of mlb.com, Brandon McCarthy will rehab at AAA Gwinnett alongside Peter Moylan, and both will rejoin the team when rosters expand in September. McCarthy will attempt to help the Braves in a relief role and will retire at season’s end.
McCarthy has been back home rehabbing from knee tendinitis since June. Now, he will attempt to pitch one last stretch instead of having a clean-up surgery that would have sidelined him until spring training.
McCarthy is a 13-year veteran who has pitched for seven different teams. The rotation seems to be moving in a more youthful direction regardless of his health status. Quite frankly, anything the Braves can get out McCarthy, Moylan and Sam Freeman at this point in the season would just be an added bonus.
Good luck to McCarthy in retirement, and hopefully he can ride into the sunset with some bling.
