There aren’t many better rivalries in the NFL better than the Falcons and Saints, thanks in large part due to Matt Ryan and Drew Brees, who each helped their respective franchise to several playoff appearances for over a decade.
Those days are now in the past, but things are looking up for both of these teams heading into 2023. The Saints acquired Derek Carr and are the favorites to win the NFC South. However, the Falcons have the second-best odds to win the division and are creeping out of a rebuild. There’s a very good chance that the champion of the NFC South is the team that makes the most of these two matchups, and we now know which which weeks they will be taking place in 2023.
Nola.com’s Jeff Duncan reports that the New Orleans Saints will end the 2023 season in Week 18 with a home game against the division-rival Atlanta Falcons, though the NFL is waiting to finalize a date and time for the matchup — just like they did last year.
Additionally, Duncan reports that the Saints will visit the Falcons for a road game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Week 12, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
Both matchups will take place later in the season, with the final one in New Orleans during Week 18. There’s no question that is a game that could have significant playoff implications, and it might end up deciding the NFC South.
Ideally, the Falcons would have that game at home. New Orleans is one of the most difficult places to play in the NFL. I hate them, but I have to give credit where it is due. Their fans are fantastic, but it will only make it that much sweeter if the Falcons can send them packing on their home turf.
