The city of Atlanta and its sports fans will be on edge this week as their favorite teams square off against rivals in pivotal matchups.
The Braves have a date with the Mets at Truist Park in a series that will decide the club’s playoff fate. The Georgia Bulldogs will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Nick Saban-less Alabama Crimson Tide, and the week will be capped off in Mercedez-Benz Stadium with the Falcons hosting the Saints.
The Braves remain in the NL Wild Card hunt and need a series victory over the Mets to keep their postseason hopes alive. The baseball club is 1.5 games behind the Diamondbacks and 2.0 of the Mets, so there’s a scenario where Atlanta and New York get in, but the Braves have to win this series to keep their hopes alive.
In the college football world, Kirky Smart’s club is coming off a bye week and will take on Bama for the first time in the Kaleb DeBoer era. T-town will be jumping, and the Dawgs will have a fight waiting for them. This is the biggest test for both of these teams thus far, and the winner will be in the driver’s seat for the SEC championship game.
The Falcons are coming off a loss to the Chiefs in primetime, but not all losses are made the same. Atlanta should feel much different coming off their Week 3 loss compared to the Week 1 loss against the Steelers. Building momentum is important, and the Falcons got better on Sunday. Division play kicks off as the Saints come to Atlanta, and the winner, much like at the collegiate level, will be in the driver’s seat in the NFC South.
It’s a big week for Atlanta, one that could end in heartbreak or euphoria.
