The Atlanta Hawks didn’t get the easiest of draws for this year’s NBA Cup, with their group featuring the defending champions in the Boston Celtics as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers, who just lost their first game of the season earlier in the week after starting 15-0.
However, that first loss happened to be to the Boston Celtics in group play for the NBA Cup, putting the Hawks alone at the top of the standings.
NBA Cup Group C Standings
- Atlanta Hawks (2-0)
- Boston Celtics (1-1)
- Cleveland Cavaliers (1-1)
- Washington Wizards (0-1)
- Chicago Bulls (0-1)

By beating the Celtics on the road without Trae Young in the NBA Cup opener, the Hawks put themselves in a really great position to win the group. Eight teams will advance to the knockout rounds, the six group winners and two Wild Card teams. From there, it’s a single elimination tournament until a champion is crowned.
NBA Cup action continues tonight for the Hawks as they take on the Bulls in Chicago. It’s their third of four NBA Cup group play games, and with a win, they are very likely to advance to the knockout rounds.
