The Falcons have had quite the tumultuous offseasons under the new regime of Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith. In their first, Fontenot was forced to ship off one of the greatest players in franchise history after Julio Jones requested a trade.
Then, in their second offseason, the team pursued the highly controversial star Deshaun Watson, who still has 20+ sexual misconduct cases pending against him. After failing, Fontenot then had to trade another one of the franchise’s greatest players in history — Matt Ryan. It’s been a pretty wild ride these last 15 months.
Now, the Falcons have a mediocre roster without a long-term answer at quarterback, looking to rebuild. On Wednesday, Arthur Smith spoke with Rich Eisen on the Rich Eisen Show, covering a bevy of topics — the Ryan trade, the interest level in Watson, and the roster’s needs a week away from the draft.
How hard was it for the team to trade @M_Ryan02 and how deep where they in on @deshaunwatson?
