Arthur Smith gives vague update on Falcons injuries

Steelers Falcons Arthur Smith

The Falcons have gutted out two wins through as many weeks, and the club hasn’t even been healthy.

In the season opener, Atlanta was without two starters in Cordarrelle Patterson and Jeff Okudah. The former is dealing with a thigh injury, while the latter is still dealing with an ankle injury.

Both ended up missing the second contest against the Packers yesterday, but Troy Andersen joined them on the sideline. The second-round pick came into practice displaying concussion symptoms, prompting the Falcons to rule him out on Friday.

Arthur Smith gave another vague update on Monday.“Feel good about where they are at,” according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This is typical of Smith, who rarely gives away any information on the team. The Falcons could really use both of them as they travel to Detroit to take on the Lions, who are coming off a nail biting loss to the Seahawks.

Tre Flowers has assumed the starting role on the boundary opposite of A.J. Terrell in place of Okudah, and though he’s performed admirably, he leaves a lot to be desired. His performance against the Packers was a rough one. Okudah’s return would be huge.

Patterson, on the other hand, might not be as missed. However, the dynamic presence he brings cannot be understated. Atlanta’s offense has spun its tires in both of the first halves of the first two games; Patterson wouldn’t be a cure-all, but he’s certainly a welcome sight for the offense.

We didn’t get an update on Andersen, but it seems like he’ll return pretty soon, given he was seen practicing on Friday with a helmet.
