We should listen to people when they tell us who they are; Falcons owner Arthur Blank should listen to what his GM, Terry Fontenot, is telling him.
Following another sub-.500 season, marking the seventh consecutive season without a playoff appereance, four of which Fontenot oversaw, Atlanta’s GM took to the podium and told the organization’s owner all he should need to hear to make a decision.
“I want to be real clear that we haven’t done a good enough job. I haven’t done a good enough job,” he said. “We haven’t won enough. It starts with me. That’s my job to make this team a consistent winner.”
He told you, me, every Falcons fan, and most importantly, Arthur Blank the stone cold truth. Terry Fontenot is telling you that he hasn’t done a good enough job in FOUR years, and there are still people who defend this man?
“There’s one stat that matters, wins and losses, so we have to figure out those specific things that we need to do differently,” Fontenot said. “This is a critical offseason for all of us. We all understand that.”
Wins and losses, that’s all that matters. In Fontenot’s tenure as GM, the Falcons have compiled a 29-39 record. The Falcons won seven games while “rebuilding” the roster in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Then, they proceeded to improve by exactly one win in 2024. His job is to put the best possible team on the field. The Falcons changed head coaches, invested heavily into the quarterback position, and the results were damn near the exact same.
“I can sit here and say anything I want, the words really don’t mean anything,” he said. “We have to speak with our results.”
There is now a four year sample size in place, showing us everything we need to know about Terry Fontenot. He hasn’t been good enough at his job. We know it, he knows, but for some reason, Arthur Blank refuses to acknowledge what’s right in front of him.
