The Hawks offseason began a couple of weeks ago when they failed to get out of the play-in tournament for the first time ever.
Atlanta sits at a crossroads this offseason. With trade rumors circling Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, a young and relatively inexperienced front office will have to guide the organization through treacherous waters.
One club that will consistently be connected to the Hawks is the Lakers. Los Angeles’ season just ended following a gentlemen’s sweep at the hands of the Nuggets. The biggest question for the Lakers is what will LeBron James do, but it’s far from the only one.
Will they acquire a third superstar to pair with The King and AD? Trae Young is often the popular trade target, but his All-Star teammate has also been floated in rumors.
Will Los Angeles move on from Darvin Ham? Per ESPN, sources have told Dave McMenamin that a decision on Ham’s future in Los Angeles is expected soon. If Ham is ousted, who will the Lakers bring in to replace him and oversee a potential transition away from LeBron James or toward another Big 3?
Well, here’s where the Hawks come back into the picture. According to the odds in Las Vegas, there’s a non-zero chance that Quin Snyder leaves Atlanta for sunny Los Angeles; in fact, he’s considered the third most likely candidate.

I’ll say that I’d be shocked if Snyder left the Hawks for the Lakers, but nothing this organization does should surprise me anymore.
A general manager and head coach have already parted ways with the club because of management. First, it was Travis Schlenk then Nate McMillan followed him soon after with only the Resslers to blame. Now, McMillan’s exit is probably a net positive, but Schlenk was the best GM the Hawks have ever had, and bad ownership ran him out of town.
I don’t expect Quin Snyder to leave, but we shouldn’t consider it impossible.
