Anthopoulos comments on Spencer Strider’s timeline to return

Spencer Strider Mets

Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos met with the media last night, primarily to talk about the team’s newest addition, Jurickson Profar, and what other moves the club could have up their sleeve before the start of the season. However, he also answered a question about the timeline for Spencer Strider to return.

The Braves ace has said recently that he feels like he will probably be ready to pitch in a game by the time the season starts. However, Alex Anthopoulos ensured neither he nor Acuña will be on the Opening Day roster, even if Spencer Strider has already thrown four bullpens and will have a normal Spring Training.

“Asked Alex (Anthopoulos) about Strider, said he’s already thrown 4 bullpens this winter and should have a normal spring. But he reiterated team already made decision neither he nor Acuña will be on OD roster,” David O’Brien of The Athletic reported on X/Twitter.

It was always highly unlikely the Braves were ever considering pushing Spencer Strider to be ready by Opening Day. He’s far too important to the organization, not just for this year but for the future as well. There’s no reason to take any chances, but it appears as if he’s on track to be ready very early in the season.
