The countdown to the NBA Draft is on, but the Hawks are already on the clock, and the biggest story of the cycle has been Alex Sarr and his apparent reluctance to play in Atlanta.
Sarr declined a workout with the Hawks, which eventually made fans believe that his camp didn’t want him in Atlanta. Then, he was asked about the skipped workout, and Alex Sarr essentially dodged the question, noting that he has good people around him, but he did tell Jake Fischer that he would indeed report to Atlanta if they draft him at No. 1 overall.
“I’ll play for any team that drafts me,” Sarr said, via Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports. “For me, the most important thing is if a team is willing to take a chance on you, you just have to go there and play hard. There’s no such thing as being picky or not wanting to go somewhere.”
If that wasn’t enough for Hawks fans to believe he could still be the No. 1 overall pick, Sarr said that he deserves to be the top selection because he’s the best player in the draft.

It really does seem like Alex Sarr is being influenced by his camp, but then again, they work for him, not the other way around. Something fishy is going on in this entire situation, beginning with Landry Fields coming out before Sarr’s media session and confirming the French star didn’t want to do a workout.
The Hawks should be concerned with the intangibles, but if he’s the best player in the class, this is a no-brainer; Alex Sarr should be the pick. Think back to Zion Williamson very openly not wanting to play for the Pelicans; how’s that going?
