On June 13th, Ozzie Albies went down with an injury, fracturing his foot against the Nationals. Not long after, he was placed on the 60-day IL. The earliest he could possibly return is the middle of August, but we have heard just about nothing regarding Albies’ progress since the injury was sustained… until now.
Today, Jeff Schultz of The Athletic released a piece in which he interviewed Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos. The two discussed a bevy of intriguing topics, and one of them was the status of Albies’ injury. To which Anthopoulos responded:
He’s at 75 percent weight-bearing. We’re probably looking at mid- to late-August or worst case the beginning of September. That’s why we got Cano, a left-handed hitter. Once he comes back, it’ll be a huge addition for us.
From Anthopoulos’ comments, it sounds like it is the best case scenario for Albies. They expect him back sometime in late August, which will give him just over a month to find a groove before the postseason. Orlando Arcia and Robinson Canó have provided decent production as replacements, so I imagine the Braves won’t be looking to add another second baseman at the trade deadline unless Albies suffers a setback.
