It’s a solemn day for Falcons fans as the Saints have fired Dennis Allen.

Allen was in his third season as the head coach in New Orleans. After winning their first two games of the season over the Panthers and Cowboys in emphatic fashion, the Saints have lost seven straight games, including on Sunday to the lowly Carolina Panthers.
The Falcons will travel to the Bayou this weekend to take on the Saints, who will be led by assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi. In three seasons as head coach of the Saints, Allen compiled an 18-25 record with no playoff appearances.
The Falcons are finally an ascending organization with Raheem Morris at the helm and Kirk Cousins under center, but no amount of success compares to seeing your rival burn in a dumpster.
Fortunately, firing Dennis Allen isn’t a cure-all for the Saints. The Falcons took on a ton of dead money to put the Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff era behind them. They sucked for a few seasons with bare minimum talent, and their rivals are staring down an even longer rebuild.
New Orleans’ salary cap situation is a mess. Similar to Atlanta at the end of Matt Ryan‘s career, the Saints have an expensive, aging roster with no solutions other than heading for a multi-year rebuild.
Unfortunately for Saints fans, Mickey Loomis refused to do so when Sean Payton left the organization. The general manager continues to kick the can down the road, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to give it up anytime soon. Hell, they just extended Alvin Kamara earlier in the season.
The head coach position in New Orleans is one of the most unattractive in recent memory, so while Falcons fans are sad about Dennis Allen’s firing, there’s no end in sight for their turmoil.
