Desmond Ridder hasn’t faired as well as some thought he might following a change of scenery. The former Falcons third-round pick literally fumbled away his only shot at being a starter in this league last year and was traded to the Cardinals this offseason.
Rondale Moore was sent to Atlanta while Ridder was shipped out west to the desert. In Arizona, he was supposed to be in line to back up Kyler Murray, but the former Falcons quarterback may have even lost the backup job.
A Cardinals beat reporter had this to say…
I’ve seen more than enough of Ridder to know we can’t ride into the season with him as the option behind Murray

Clayton Tune is his competition, and the 2023 fifth-round pick may have solidified his spot behind Murray.
Across three preseason games, Tune put together an 85.5 QB rating thanks to a 67.3% completion rate, 361 yards passing, one touchdown, and one interception. Compared to Ridder’s 76.5 rating, 57.1 completion percentage, 225 yards passing and no touchdowns or interceptions.
The Falcons didn’t get to see much of Rondale Moore before the former second-round pick suffered a non-contact injury that will cost him the entire season, but Ridder never had a place in Atlanta.
Hell, Taylor Henicke doesn’t really have much of a role with the Falcons. Both the Cardinals and the Falcons could decide to ride with three quarterbacks for insurance purposes, but it’s very possible both Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke are playing elsewhere in the not too distant future.
