The Hawks’ search for a President of Basketball Operations has one less candidate as Jake Fischer reported Tuesday night that Elton Brand has withdrawn his name from consideration.
The former two-time All-Star played a couple of seasons in Atlanta and shifted to the front office with the 76ers after he retired, eventually becoming the GM in 2018, where he made some pretty monumental roster moves that included the Tobias Harris trade, the Markelle Fultz trade, and the Jimmy Butler trade.
According to Fischer, Brand is focused on staying in Philadelphia for an important offseason. The Hawks and Sixers failed to make the postseason, with both clubs severely hampered by injuries to their stars.
An interesting name that has come up in conversations is Danny Ferry, Zach Klein reported.
“The Atlanta Hawks are casting a very wide net in their search for a team president. One name is very familiar to Hawks fans…. former GM Danny Ferry,” Klein posted on X. “Ferry will interview for the job along with Monte McNair, Calvin Booth, Shareef Abur-Rahim and Elton Brand among others.”
Whoever takes over in Atlanta will have a challenging offseason ahead of them. The Hawks will need to get pen to paper on a Trae Young extension. Dyson Daniels is also up for a new contract. The club owns two first-round picks, and that doesn’t even get into the possibility of a blockbuster trade.
