Athens is a football factory. Kirby Smart‘s best recruiting pitch should just be tape of the Super Bowl, where plenty of Georgia Bulldogs helped the Eagles hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Whether it’s Jalen Carter and the slew of other Dawgs in Philadelphia or Travon Walker going No. 1 overall, there’s no better way to get to the NFL than to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs, especially defenders.
This year, Smart will send another crop of prospects to Indy for the NFL Combine, headlined by Jalon Walker, Malaki Starks, and Mykel Williams, but there are 11 other Dawgs invited — Trevor Etienne, Dylan Fairchild, Tate Ratledge, Xavier Truss, Jared Wilson, Dominic Lovett, Arian Smith, Warren Brinson, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Nazir Stackhouse, and Smael Mondon.
However, there were two notable Bulldogs missing — Dan Jackson and Chaz Chambliss.
Jackson walked on at UGA and eventually earned a starting spot on the backend, becoming a critical piece of Glenn Schumann’s defense. He was named MVP of his position group at the Senior Bowl and will now follow a similar path to the NFL as he did in college — doubted. He might be a Day 3 pick, but nobody should count him out if he’s an undrafted free agent.
Chambliss led the Bulldogs in sacks for the 2024 season and played a crucial role in the Dawgs’ historic win over their rivals in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. During the fourth quarter of the game, the defensive end recovered a Georgia Tech fumble that was ironically forced by Dan Jackson, which allowed the Bulldogs to tie the game and ultimately win in eight overtimes.
Jackson and Chambliss’ best chance of impressing scouts now comes at Georgia’s pro day, but if there’s anyone to take a flier on in this sport, it’s a Kirby Smart-coached player.
