With the NFL Draft days away, the Falcons are gearing up for what should be a noteworthy Thursday night.
Holding the 8th pick, Terry Fontenot can go in any number of directions, a couple of which he’s never done since taking over general manager duties in Atlanta.
Fontenot confirmed that he’s taken in more trade calls than usual because of the number of quarterbacks that could go in the first four or five picks. The Falcons could actually be considering moving back in the draft, which would be a first under Fontenot.
Then, there’s the obvious route, drafting a defensive player with the 8th overall pick. With three top 10 draft picks, Fontenot has taken three skill offensive players, and the overwhelming expectation is the Falcons will take a defender with their top pick. Vegas believes so as well.
- Defensive Line/EDGE -215
- Cornerback +195
- Wide Receiver +800
- Offensive Line +1300
Laiatu Latu and Dallas Turner are taking their turns as the betting favorite to be the Falcons’ pick, but nobody should rule out the other pass rusher in Jared Verse or the top corners in Quinyon Mitchell and Terrion Arnold.
Hell, I still think the best value on the board, if you’re a betting man, is Rome Odunze or any other wideout. Fontenot said in his pre-draft press conference that the Falcons still plan on taking the best player available, and I’m of the opinion that no defender compares to the Washington star.
