Draft expert says Hawks don’t know what they’re doing with No. 1 pick yet

NBA: MAR 17 Hawks at Clippers

Less than a week away from the NBA Draft, and Jonathan Givony believes the Hawks don’t know what they’re doing with the No. 1 pick yet.

As of right now, here’s what we know six days away from the Hawks being on the clock:

Atlanta worked out a slew of players, including Reed Sheppard, for a potential trade back scenario, per Givony. Clubs have already expressed interest in the Hawks top pick, but Landry Fields is very comfortable standing pat.

One of those potential deals could be with the Spurs, again according to Givony, as the Hawks would move back to the No. 4 pick to maybe target Sheppard or Donovan Clingan in exchange for their own 2025 first-round pick back.

Speaking of the UConn star, details of Clingan’s workout with the Hawks have emerged, and the 7-foot big man has a lot of fans in Atlanta. However, he’s not the favorite to be the top pick.

A new prospect has emerged to be the Hawks selection, Zaccharie Risacher; Givony reports that’s how other clubs see it, at least. Vegas sees it that way too. Most betting outlets, like FanDuel, have Risacher as the favorite to be the No. 1 pick.

For much of the offseason, it’s been Alex Sarr as the consensus top prospect in a draft class without an obvious top prospect. However, the Hawks have been unable to bring the Frenchman in for a workout, according to reports from Givony.

A lot can change in 24 hours, and we still have six days before the Hawks are making their pick, so buckle up.
